{"id":1315,"date":"2023-04-07T16:58:03","date_gmt":"2023-04-07T16:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/?p=1315"},"modified":"2023-04-07T16:58:03","modified_gmt":"2023-04-07T16:58:03","slug":"raising-a-child-through-prison-bars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/?p=1315&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Raising a Child through Prison Bars"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Project &#8220;Raising a Child through Prison Bars&#8221; was implemented in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania and was focused on imprisoned mothers and on preventing and compating CAN concerning imprisoned mothers&#8217; children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":511,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[147,149],"tags":[109,115,113],"class_list":["post-1315","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-all-en","category-programs","tag-child","tag-europe","tag-greece","has-post-title","has-post-date","has-post-category","has-post-tag","has-post-comment","has-post-author",""],"builder_content":"<img src=\"https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2.png\" title=\"banner2\" alt=\"banner2\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2.png 1900w, https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2-300x79.png 300w, https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2-1024x269.png 1024w, https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2-768x202.png 768w, https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2-1536x404.png 1536w, https:\/\/ich-mhsw.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/banner2-1024x269-400x105.png 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1900px) 100vw, 1900px\" \/>\n<p><em>Started on Dec 2009 and was completed on Dec 2009<\/em><\/p><p>The Project \"Raising a Child through Prison Bars\" (with financial support from the DAPHNE III Program of the European Union) was implemented in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.<\/p><p>The project\u2019s objectives were to contribute to:<\/p><ul><li>support Imprisoned Mothers (IM) &amp; future mothers to handle their own experiences of abuse [either Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Child Abuse &amp; Neglect (CAN)] &amp; accomplish their parental role in as an effective way as possible<\/li><li>prevent &amp; combat CAN as well as to provide support to Children of Imprisoned Parents (CHIP) in order to both disrupt the cycle of violence &amp; enhance children\u2019s resilience<\/li><li>collect data in 3 European countries (Greece, Romania, Bulgaria) aiming to map the Imprisoned Mothers population in regards to demographic information, needs and problems faced by Imprisoned Mothers, their children and families, as well as in regards to CAN and attachment style for both Imprisoned Mothers and Children of Imprisoned Parents, IPV experience of IM and mental health of CHIP.<\/li><\/ul><p>The project's objectives were accomplished by conducting the following activities in Bulgaria, Greece and Romania from December 2009 until February 2012:<\/p><ul><li>Research &amp; needs assessment surveys were conducted to imprisoned mothers, children of imprisoned parents and women's prisons' personnel <\/li><li>Mothers\u2019 Support Groups (M-SG) &amp; Family Ties Building Activities were conducted in 5 women\u2019s prisons in Bulgaria (one prison), Greece (2 prisons) and Romania (2 prisons)<\/li><li>Children\u2019s Support Groups (CHIP-SG) were conducted via using drama techniques<\/li><li>Building women\u2019s prisons\u2019 personnel capacity through Training (professionals employed in women\u2019s prisons) &amp; Sensitization Seminars (operational personnel) <\/li><li>Development of Supportive Materials, namely: <\/li><li>The expected results of these activities are: enhanced CHIP\u2019s resilience &amp; functionality; enhanced IMs\u2019 parenting skills; strengthened mother-child relationships; enhanced skills &amp; raised awareness of prison personnel<\/li><\/ul><p>Moreover, there are two (informative) leaflets provided:<\/p><ul><li>for children of imprisoned mothers entitled: My mother is in prison\u2026 what I'd like to know\u2026<\/li><li>for imprisoned mothers entitled: Raising a child through Prison Bars\u2026 isn\u2019t easy but... it isn\u2019t impossible!
